The essence of the album – I needed a song that would
bridge the gap and set the tone. When Izlyn and I sat at
the piano ‘saja-saja’ after dinner one evening,

50s and 60s with her quirky big-band inspired songs. She
still performs in Holland and has many recordings to her

point of view. By the way, unbelievably in this day and
age, we were unable to track down the original composer

This is the P. Ramlee classic. He was our Sammy, Frank

with Vivian on this arrangement, we were both very aware
that we were dealing with National Property. Our audacious
intent here was to create somewhat of a new blue-print,
not straying too far from the original but yet trying to
give it a new, timeless dignity as Malaysia’s unofficial

The late Indonesian singer Broery Marantika was known
for his romantic ballads. This one was written by our very
own Datuk Ahmad Nawab who continues to write beautiful
songs. Although released in 1976 and originally sung by
Broery, Kathijah Ibrahim had a big hit with ‘Sabar
Menanti’ when Datuk Ahmad asked her to record her
version in 1979.

it came from ‘those days’ and
that it could have been one of ours. So, with thanks to Pink

me it paints the picture of what we used to be way back in
